If OSRS gold does go on Steam, they will surely get enough new players to earn enough money which the 30% are a non-factor. Can't speak for Epic though even though it is just 12 percent, they might be unable to recuperate the price should they go on there. Cost aside, it might be moot. Game stores provide access that is large but don't have.

It could be rapid short-term profit, but any new individual would not be anticipating this kind of game to be in the store resulting in just F2P or just 1/2 month subscription. You then would have to take care of the negative reviews which are likely to come from them because RS is a very slow build up to end-game content compared to the typical action-packed or speedy gratification of the other games on the stage. Why would being on steam give enough money to be worth it? We aren't just talking about the cut, we are talking about the money spent making RuneScape meet the requirements steam has.

I don't understand what they are but they are at least going to include writing a launcher that can work through steam. Steam also distributes updates for games on the stage so again you have to have a way to get the update through 2 channels at precisely the exact same moment. Not impossible tasks but not 5 minute ones either. And you have to ask, what could it do? Sure being in steam might raise visibility of RuneScape, but does it require it? Runescape's problem isn't that people have not heard of RuneScape - it's that people do not wish to play it. Even individuals who have never played an MMORPG in their lifetime have heard of runescape.

The issue is getting them to perform, would being on things like steam help that? But it's not certain. I might be speaking out of my ass here, however, steam has matches using their launchers. The RuneScape customer has its own launcher, only with no user interface that is fancy. They would only need to get the wrapper on steam/epic, and that would just have to be updated when there are major client updates where you have to redownload it from the website (which doesn't happen often, right?). Not sure how they'd manage revenue sharing. All RuneScape purchases are done through a weblink rather than in RuneScape game, but they could likely mplement a steam store.

Yep plenty of steam games have their launchers but from what I've seen they still handle upgrades via steam rather than via the launcher itself. Meaning every week they would be pushing updates through steam as well as through Apple, android and the present desktop client. Yeah that on its own is not a deal breaker but all these little things accumulate very fast to make a simple proposal"put match on steam" into a fairly significant project with plenty of possible drawbacks.

Valve and ohh want you to add steam wallet instead even in link stores. And any in RuneScape game purchases need to be secured so that a participant accessing through steam can pay via steam. Basically you can not blame them but it is filled with negatives from jagex's view. You also have the update process generally, I don't know what type of lead time steam want with updates being pushed and if this would work with how often RS is upgraded. Many mmos have their own launcher, and the launcher is only updated by steam updates. FF14 comes to mind as a example. The launcher is kept by steam up the buy School RuneScape Gold launcher stains RuneScape, entirely outside of steam.
